AlupecThe official language of Cape Verdes is Portuguese, but the local language is a Creole/Kriolu.  It is a mix of archaic Portuguese and several African languages, and is commonly spoken and understood.  Many Cape Verdeans also speak English, French, and/or Spanish.

The Alfabeto Unificado para a Escrita do Caboverdiano (Unified Alphabet for Cape Verdean Writing), commonly known as ALUPEC, is the alphabet that was officially recognized by the Cape Verdean government to write Cape Verdean Creole.
